The paragliding site in Junga (Shimla) is a private paragliding site with the takeoff at 1800m and landing site at 1400m. The paragliding site has the capacity to serve 4 tandem paragliding passengers at any given time, served by licensed pilots and brand new paragliding equipment. All flights booked with ParaBooking are insured and the Reserve parachute is used for added safety. A safety briefing is conducted before every flight and radio communication is maintained with the landing site at all times.
The landing site is a flat landscape spread over 5 acres; a small restaurant, there are cottages and camps with clean toilets for someone who is looking for more than just paragliding. On the way to the takeoff site, there is an old palace on the verge of ruins; and a half an hour’s walk from the landing site is a beautiful waterfall.
Your adventure starts as soon as you meet up with our pilots for briefing at the meetup point in Junga. Here you will be briefed by our expert pilots on your take-off and landing procedures. After the briefing, you will be taking a ride through the picturesque villages and dense foliage to reach the take-off site. Here, your pilot will strap you in the harness, wear your helmet, and attach the paraglider with brief instructions on the take-off procedure. Once geared up and briefed, you and your pilot will take a few gentle steps down the slopes until airborne.

Paragliding in Shimla is open throughout the year except for the 2 months in Monsoons. However, the best time to paraglide here is between March to May and between October to December. The late morning hours between 10am and noon gives the best thermic conditions for a good paragliding flight, but the time varies from season to season.
Paragliding site in Shimla is in this quaint little village called Junga. Junga is just 22 kms (~1 hour drive) from Shimla (on Shimla-Junga road), and 100 kms (~3 hour drive) from Chandigarh (via Kalka-Solan-Badon).
Arrival, Check-in, Safety briefing can take approx 30 mins. Transportation to the takeoff site takes 30 mins. The actual flight is approx 8-10 mins. Debriefing and transfer of video can take another 30 mins. All in all, the entire experience of Paragliding in Shimla can take upto 2 hours, subject to the weather and wind conditions. However, there is lot to see and experience around in Junga than just Paragliding, like tree-walk adventure, camping, trek to the waterfall, a visit to the Junga palace, etc. With a restaurant on-site, we recommend that you plan to spend the day (and even the night :-)).

For kids young and old, there are tree-top adventure activities that one can participate in. There is a trail that leads to a waterfall one hour’s hike away. On the way to the paragliding takeoff site is an old palace on the verge of ruins. Ask your guide to stop at the Junga Palace and soak in its beauty of yesteryears.

Yes, all paragliding experiences booked through parabooking.com include the GoPro video of your flight. However, there are freelance photographers at the landing site who may take photos of you and offer them for sale. Such freelance photographers are not associated with ParaBooking in any way and any transaction between you and the said photographer is outside the purview of your booking with ParaBooking.
After you have landed and unbuckled, your pilot will transfer the video from your GoPro device to your smart phone. It is a good idea to carry your data transfer cable or a pen drive along which can help speed up the process. However, this is not required.
No. All passengers must be transported to the takeoff site from the landing site (meetup point) in the vehicle arranged through us and this is included in the cost of your paragliding. The road to the takeoff site can be narrow and a bit tricky to maneuver in various places for an unseasoned driver. Also, the drive to the takeoff site is a one way drive as you come down paragliding.

The paragliding site at Junga near Shimla is a government (Himachal Pradesh) approved Tandem Paragliding Site. The site is approved for commercial Tandem Paragliding operations with government mandated safety protocols in place. Once you have decided to fly with your pilot, it is imperative that you listen to his/her instructions carefully and follow them through the process for your own (and your pilot’s) safety.
